Should You Take Vitamin K2 and D3 Together?

K2 + D3

Calcium absorption, also known as calcium metabolism, is a vital process for our overall health. With the addition of vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 in your diet, you will be getting exactly what you need to do just that.

Separately, vitamin D3 is able to support and aid in a healthy immune system, support muscle function and help absorb calcium in the gut. K2 can regulate blood clotting, along with encouraging the growth of calcium in the body. Together, NCBI states “vitamin D promotes the production of vitamin K-dependent proteins, which require vitamin K for carboxylation in order to function properly.”This signifies that when they work together, they can transport calcium into the bones which are where they are required the most.

In saying this, it may seem odd that these two are needed to be consumed together. However, with vitamin supplementation, as well as our bodies being complex, each vitamin has a specific function within our bodies. Vitamin interaction is important to understand so that we are able to allow absorption to be as effective as possible.

Our 2 in 1 Support K2+D3 encourages the absorption of calcium carbonate with the added bonus of vitamin D3 and vitamin K2, along with BioPerine. Let's dive a little deeper into what each of these ingredients does.

Calcium (As Calcium Carbonate):

Consuming calcium is one thing, but specifically consuming calcium carbonate is another. Calcium carbonate is seen to be of best value as it obtains “the highest amount of elemental calcium (about 40% by weight)” according to Harvard Health. The measurement of elemental calcium is important as during the digestion process, it is the amount that is released and available for absorption. As a common supplement to help in the treatment and prevention of calcium deficiency, being sufficient is much more important than you may realize. Although consuming calcium on it’s own won’t be the only thing you need.

Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol):

Vitamin D3 is a fat-soluble vitamin, also known as the sun vitamin, which can aid in your body’s absorption of not only calcium but phosphorus as well. While for most of our lives we hear about the importance of consuming calcium, consuming enough vitamin D alongside it is able to build and support strong and healthy bones. So much so, that it is said that vitamin D can represent a crucial addition in preventing osteoporosis as its main function is to aid in calcium absorption. Harvard Health notes “An analysis of data from the Nurses' Health Study found that study participants who consume 500 IU of vitamin D daily are 37% less likely to have broken a hip than women who consume 140 IU. (IU stands for International Units, a measure of biological activity.) Neither total calcium nor milk consumption was associated with a lower risk for hip fracture.”

With vitamin D consumption through food being on the smaller side due to there not being the greatest variety available, and vitamin D from the sun depending on the time of year and where you are living, supplementation can be crucial for your health.

Vitamin K2 (Mk-7):

Vitamin K2 is not a vitamin that we have been educated on or really know anything about. Without mainstream media boasting about the benefits, we don’t understand we can potentially be missing out on an essential vitamin that could be linked with some chronic diseases. Why we need to begin to focus on it now is important as the western diet only gives us around 25% of our vitamin K, making supplementation potentially a substantial addition.

In a Japanese study that used vitamin K supplementation on women, out of 13 studies, only one did not show major improvements. Healthline states that in “Seven of these trials (studies), which took fractures into consideration, found that vitamin K2 reduced spinal fractures by 60%, hip fractures by 77% and all non-spinal fractures by 81%.”Showing just how significant vitamin K can be in bone strength in our bodies.

BioPerine (Black Pepper Fruit Extract):

BioPerine, also known as Piperine which is a compound found in black pepper, has become quite a popular addition in certain supplements. Why? Because of its significant effects in aiding the absorption of nutrients. More specifically, it is able to aid in the absorption of nutrients through the intestine. It is so significant that Live Strong states “an article published in the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine in 2010, piperine has been shown to increase the absorption of vitamin C, selenium, beta-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin B-6 and coenzyme Q.” Showing just how essential such a common ingredient can truly be.

Our 2 in 1 Support K2+D3 helps:

Supports Heart Health

Although we have been discussing a lot of our supplements' interaction with calcium absorption and bone health, you can also find some heart love here. Along with vitamin D being able to fight disease and decrease your chance of developing heart disease, Healthline states “people who get high amounts of vitamin K2 from their diet are at a reduced risk of blood vessel calcification and heart disease.”

Helps Muscle Function

For our everyday activities, muscles play a vital role. An NCBI review states,In most observational studies, vitamin D status correlates positively with muscle strength and postural stability.” Although more studies are needed in younger generations, NCBI goes on to state “In seven studies, a beneficial effect of vitamin D treatment was documented on muscle strength of the lower legs, body sway, and/or physical performance.”

Promote Bone Strength

As stated many times before, calcium is able to be absorbed more effectively through the body with the combination of vitamin D3 and vitamin K2. This absorption will lead to stronger and healthier bones.

Support Immune System

As vitamin D has been seen as a crucial part of a good functioning immune system, throw in some bone strength and heart health and you have yourself a pretty strong body response to outside irregularities. Essentially, vitamin D can help fight off infection and disease, making it an important addition to your everyday lifestyle.

Our 2 in 1 Support K2+D3 supplement will be giving you all the beneficial nutrients you need to continue to have healthy and strong bones, to support heart health and to boost your immune system. All in one simple capsule!
