How To Stay Motivated To Workout

We are all human beings, we all have certain days where we just don't feel like working out at all. It is completely normal for some days to be more motivated than the other days to work out. Don't be so hard on yourself, if you feel like there's something wrong with you because you don't want to workout it's just simply called being human. But not to worry, there are a few tips and tricks that you can do to stay motivated to workout that may actually impact your motivation to workout on your “off” days.

Play Your Favorite Music While Working Out

Intentionally don't listen to your favorite music that you love throughout the day, wait until you workout to play those beats that just gets you happy, pumping and motivated. It just makes you feel straight up good having that music while you're working out, can be a game-changer in your perspective and you're going to be telling your brain “This is fun.”  So next time when you get the urge to listen to your favorite music you can only reward yourself when you're working out and won't be able to play those beats unless you're doing so. 

Dress In Workout Clothes

Now this may be a little tricky to implement with our everyday job duties but if you are more of a morning person schedule time to workout in the morning. First thing in the morning you're going to dress in workout clothes then you go to work out and then you go back get ready for the day and go about your job duties. 

If you're more of an evening workout person when you get home, change immediately out of your work clothes and get into your workout clothes. Just by doing that and being in your workout clothes will hit a trigger to your brain thinking “Oh I'm wearing workout clothes,  it's time to go work out.” 

This has helped me so much when I just feel really unmotivated. Just by change of clothes and the routine that we do everyday will definitely change your mood and energy. For example when you wear your pajamas your brain thinks “It's time to relax time to go to bed.” When you're in your work clothes your brain thinks “It's time to go and work.” When you wear your workout clothes it's the same thing your brain is thinking “Hey it's time to work out.”  This personally helps me so much and I have heard of other people using this technique that has helped them as well.

Workout In The Morning

Now this tags on earlier on what we talked about working out in the morning when you have workout clothes on and then going about your job duties. So if you are a morning person you can jump right in and see just putting your work out clothes first thing in the morning and then you're going to go work out and then go about your job duties. 

If you are not a morning person I suggest for a few weeks slowly implement getting up earlier and earlier. Because after you go to work and come back home at the end of the day you're going to be so tired to workout the majority of the time that you're just not going to do it. Now I know what you're thinking “I will never be a morning person.” I get it, I was not a morning person for the longest time in my life until I had to get up really early for a certain job. After weeks became months, and months became years. I created the habit of getting up early and so changing into my workout clothes first thing in the morning became not such an impossible thing.

Accountability Buddy

There is a saying that goes like this “Hang out with people that have a common feature, not a common past.”  If you want to have a change in your lifestyle and live your ideal life, it's essential to hang out with people who live the way you would like to live. I strongly recommend finding someone who already has a great exercise routine that can help you be accountable.  There's some people who prefer to work out alone and then there's some people who prefer to work out in workout groups. If you like to work out alone, communicate to your accountability buddy what time you're planning to work out in the day or you can even jump into their exercise schedule and together you both can be working out within that same time frame and keep each other accountable. There are many people out there that would be so flattered to be approached by what they do so well and would love to be your accountable buddy.

If you are someone who likes to work out in a group setting, find a buddy in that class who goes to that class on a regular basis, get their number and chat with them. Plan days to go together whether that's picking them up or meeting them there because they already have that regular attendance routine this will be beneficial for you and tell them to give you tough love when you don't show up.

Intermittent Fasting

Now I left the best for last because intermittent fasting can be a great way to give you so many benefits. There have been studies that fasting can boost your “metabolic efficiency and endurance endurance capacity.” This is literally changing your brain chemistry, and when your brain chemistry is changed your mood may improve and when your mood improves, your motivation improves. I find this to be a very useful tool that has helped me alot throughout the years of my fitness life. (Note: it is very important to check with your doctor first to make sure it is safe for you to fast.)


Ashwagandha has been used for Ayurvedic healings and is one of the most powerful herbs and has been utilized for many different conditions for around 6,000 years. There have been studies done that Ashwagandha may help reduce symptoms of depression. (Not saying if you're not motivated to workout you are depressed.) Rather that we are all humans and on our off days our energy and mood will be lower than other days. Supplementing with Natural Ashwagandha may also be an alternative tool when it comes to motivating yourself to workout.
